David is the founder of Decision Tree Advisor, which he established in 2022 after several years of research and preparation. The firm was born out of the idea that everyone deserves an opportunity for financial security and freedom.
David believed financial planning was not just for the uber wealthy, but ordinary people could build wealth in whatever form that person defined.
The Story
In David’s former life, he was a Senior Equity Trader at Invesco, a large global asset manager. Over his 20-year career at Invesco, David traded technology and healthcare equities and co-developed several trading tools that improved portfolio manager returns. David also performed similar investment management functions at USAA and the Retirement Systems of Alabama.
David earned a BS in Commerce and Business Administration from The University of Alabama and an MBA from Auburn University at Montgomery. David also completed the financial planning certification education program through The American College of Financial Services.
In his free time, David loves to play golf and is a dedicated supporter of Alabama football. He also enjoys spending time with his amazing wife April and their five children.
The Why?
After spending nearly 25 years in the investment management industry and a short stent at a large regional brokerage firm, he witnessed all sorts of activities that would qualify as a gray area. It was often questionable whether those activities were actually in the best interest of the client. He saw investors that were routinely saddled with underperformance, high fees and products that made absolutely no sense.
David did not want to be a party to this any longer and Decision Tree Advisor was born.
Behind the name
Any parent will tell you, raising a child is not without its challenges. After a very challenging period with one of our teenagers, we talked about making good decisions in life. That life was full of successive decisions that were either good or bad. The various combinations of good and bad decisions eventually led to how your life turned out. I illustrated this in a simple decision tree. The goal was to end up at the top right with a great and uncomplicated life.
